Éric Frechon celebrates his 20 years at the Bristol

It’s a double anniversary for the famous chef Éric Frechon. 2019 marks 20 years since his arrival at the five-star Bristol hotel, but also 10 years since he won his three Michelin stars.

It’s a remarkable tale of longevity for someone who already worked in the five-star establishment as a simple commis chef.

The chef Éric Frechon celebrates his 20 years at Le Bristol

Before he took over as head of the Bristol’s kitchen in 1999, Éric Frechon was the number two at Le Crillon where he won a “Best Worker in France” award. He found success after that with his gastronomic bistro La Verriere, located near the Buttes Chaumont.

The restaurant Epicure won 3 stars in 2009

But it was in 2009 that he reached the Holy Grail: a third Michelin star which propelled him into the big boys club of the gastronomy world.

His reputation is based on a creative and generous cuisine. A philosophy which is reflected in his famous Stuffed macaroni with black truffle, artichoke and duck foie gras. It’s not every day that you can celebrate your 20th anniversary!

Aficionado, a cigar humidor with Toulousian aromas

We all know about wine cellars but have you ever heard of a cigar cellar or humidor? Helios Atelier, a cabinet-making company specializing in the creation of customized contemporary furniture based near Toulouse, has dreamt up a wood humidor in order to store your cigars away from any outside influences.

Created in 2018 by Charlotte Rouret and Félix Carrière, Helios Atelier produces wood in collaboration with craftsmen such as upholsterers, locksmiths, blacksmiths, gilders, master glass makers, ceramists, marquetry makers, wood-turners, and sculptors, etc.

“Aficionado” contains 35 modules

Their last creation, called Aficionado, is nothing less than a circular wood humidor for storing cigars and protecting their aromas from light and humidity.

This humidor is designed to maintain a constant humidity level thanks to a synthetic hair hygrometer placed on the rotating plate and also a Cigarspa© humidifier situated directly in the center of the humidor.

The cigar humidor has a synthetic hair hygrometer to control humidity

The outside part of Aficionado is built with a wood called Ziricote, while the inside part is made of red cedar, a traditional material used for cigar cellars. Finally, everything is covered with a varnish.

An anti-UV glass protects cigars from light

To avoid the deterioration of cigars due to light, Helios Atelier installed anti-UV glass. The rotating plate can accommodate 35 models and under the table is reserved for a selection of up to 4 exceptional cigars.

The table beloy the hygrometer allows you to select 4 exceptional cigars

Imagined as a homage to the thousand years old tradition of cigars, this humidor is an ode to this moment of exception and all the rituals that accompany it. A moment of tasting, and sharing, that nothing can disturb. Fans should note that only 50 copies of the Aficionado have been built.

Switch to Swiss time with the Cat’s Eye Aventurine range

Here’s some news that will delight fans of beautiful watches. The famous Swiss Manufacturer Girard-Perregaux recently presented three new creations of its Cat’s Eye range. With their aventurine dial, these watches are a true masterpiece of finesse and sophistication.

The Aventurine glass was born on the island of Murano off Venice. The latter is famous for its mastery of glassmaking that made its reputation among the most famous European sovereigns since the Renaissance. So, it’s from here that the Swiss watchmaker drew inspiration to design three new watches: the Cat’s Eye Majestic, the Celestial and finally, the Tourbillon.

Each is a true gem that has been finely cut, mixing elegance and precision, arousing a heavenly feeling with its singular colours.

With these wonders, Girard-Perregaux shows all its expertise unveiling a work that is set with diamonds and delicately drawn. The Majestic and its feminine oval, with a pink gold case and a dial that’s somewhere between blue and black. You will also appreciate its sapphire background which help give it all its beauty.

The Celestial, for its part, evokes the moon, and that is thanks to its mother-of-pearl marquetry that is polished by hand, and its glittering inclusions. A watch with nocturnal accents in the greatest tradition of Girard-Perregaux.

And finally, The Tourbillon evokes shooting stars with its elegant silhouette and crimped gold bow as well as its flower-shaped crown adorned with a rose cut diamond. With a total of 6.20 carats, there’s no doubt that the Tourbillon gives one vertigo.
